Sounds like abalone fools joke!
I searched Google for "Abalone fools day meaning" and all it returned was "April fools" references. The whole concept of AI has destroyed search in my personal opinion. "Abalone fools day" reference is a reference to the fact that Abalone season opened on April 1 and divers would travel the long distance from Sacramento to the ocean only to fatigue themselves and often drown. I was a former abalone diver.
