[Lug-nuts] Re: Poking at Mailman3 (was: list still working)

Mailman2's standard footer pointed to the mailing list's listinfo page (which then linked to other stuff, which is also true of Mailman3's postorius). You _could_ alter the default footer to make it useful to subscribers. The default one, telling subscribers the list's name, its posting address, and the e-mail address for unsubscribing isn't very useful. Why not add a postorius link? Point 2: On the postorius page, I notice there's no link for subscribers to view the membership roster, as there was on the corresponding Mailman2 listinfo page. Brian, is that public-facing feature just totally gone? Is there a way to switch it back on? The postorius page _still_ provides no access to the subscriber roster. Brian, is that public-facing feature (member-accessible membership roster) just totally gone? Seriously, sir. I saw in my subscriber options a reference to it, here: "Hide address ( ) Yes (o) No When someone views the list membership, your email address is normally shown (in an obscured fashion to thwart spam harvesters). If you do not want your email address to show up on this membership roster at all, select Yes for this option." So, that _speaks_ of persons' ability to view the list membership -- but where? Brian, have you perhaps disabled subscriber ability to view the roster, in the mailing list's configuration? If so, would you revise that, please? Point 3: [...] This was about subscription options, and the "Log In" button. This evening, paying closer attention, I see that Mailman3 has a new notion of creating an "account" on bigbrie.com, and associating that with a subscribed e-mail address. I've done that, and successfully logged in. This then gives access to per-subscriber options, such as delivery status enabled/disabled. Win! So, point 3 is done. Point 4: On the https://bigbrie.com/mailman3/hyperkitty/list/lug-nuts@bigbrie.com/ archives page, _yesterday_ when I tried to drill down to individual archived threads and postings, I got HTTP errors. Today, no HTTP errors. Smooth sailing. Point 4, done! Point 5: Any chance you can get the pre-Feb. 28, 2022 mailing list archive from Roberto Leibman, and import it into the Mailman3 history? Hyperkitty is still missing the entire mailing list history prior to 28 Feb 2022. Brian, I'm _sure_ Mailman3 has a way to import cumulative mbox files (pipermail's backing store). Point 6: Also, time stamps for postings in _UTC_? Really? (Perhaps this weird default can be corrected?) Today, I notice that, yes, hyperkitty does display messages with timestamps in UTC, _but_ if you hover over the date, you see a shadow display of "Sender's time: [actual timestamp]". So, it seems like this weirdness of UTC-default-display is a deliberate decision of the Mailman3/hyperkitty coders. Ugh. Separately, I'll confess that I'm one of the many people who find the design and layout of the hyperkitty archiver quite horrible: It give the impression of being dumbed-down for smartphone viewing, e.g., no real headers, doesn't even display entire postings without clicky-clicky, and people's e-mail addresses are hidden completely. I'm also pretty disenchanted with the rest of Mailman3, too, frankly, though I now understand the UI a little better. The experience has inclined me to _not_ migrate any of the existing Mailman2 lists I administer to Mailman3. When Mailman2 becomes too crufty, I'll need to find some other way to move sideways to something else. God help me, maybe even ezmlm.
