How many are still running their own mail server? It seems that exim combined with sa-exim, and spam assassin nightly rule updates works pretty well. I have to say that this experience installing mailman was enlightening especially when it comes to lmtp.

I'm still running my mail server, the same setup I've been using for decades, not because there isn't anything better, but because it mostly works and I don't have to mess with it, there are other things that I spend my time on :)
Postfix, Cyrus IMAP, Spamassasin, Thunderbird on the front end.
The only thing that's changed since last month is that my new internet provider will NOT provide a static IP, so I have to use dynamic dns (I'm using cloudns.net), a bit of a pain, and I obviously can't send email out reliably, so I use google for outbound.

How many are still running their own mail server?
I have been running Zimbra for years, now, with "Let's Encrypt" certificates. It works well, but periodically, the certification gets scrambled, and I have to manually fix it. The symptoms are the same each time, but the fix seems to be different each time, meaning I have not yet found a general solution, but It only happens one or twice a year.
They no longer provide a "Community" edition, so I am stranded, meaning, I would move to a supported platform, if the migration was easy, but for now it is working, and I hope it continues to work.
I can highly recommend Zimbra; Zimbra is what ComCast uses, not that ComCast is any great endorsement beyond the volume that they handle.
Of course exim went through an extensive static code analysis by qualys. Here is a you tube podcast regarding that research.
Some may point out that postfix has less detected vulnerabilities. I point them to the dykstra quote regarding testing and the existence of bugs versus their absence. You can look it up. Exim is a large complex program and runs 60 percent of exposed MTAs out there. I think if anything, this week lead to more secure software development using spark ada. There are some other tools for doing development in C as well. I believe one is the Ravenscar profile. Yet, i have not looked at it.
